Applications

The following are a few examples of the many possible operational applications in which the Rail CargoLiner could be used. The express freight carriage with integrated cargo loading system revolutionises rail freight services and operations.

Single Carriage Applications

Railroad Track Weld Repair

Engineering Trains

Example 1

A single Rail CargoLiner placed behind a locomotive (for jumper cable connection) within a consist of an Engineering Train, can enable heavy tools and/or track maintenance equipment to be dropped to track level.

Example 2

A single Rail CargoLiner placed behind a locomotive (for jumper cable connection) within a consist of an Engineering Train, can provide a secure ‘mobile equipment locker’ for specialist tools and/or components that is accessible from track level. In this instance the internal specification might include racking and caged areas for storage.

passenger train

Passenger Trains

Example 1

A single Rail CargoLiner designed within the consist of a passenger train (with/without body end gangway vestibules) will diversify services offered by Train Operating Companies. Combining passengers and freight within one movement is both effective and economical.

Example 2

A single Rail CargoLiner designed within the consist of an International or Sleeper train (with/without body end gangway vestibules) will create an accessible cargo/luggage hold, further enhancing customer service and experience. In this instance the internal specification might include racking and caged areas for security.

Multiple Carriage Applications

stop drop

Stop and Drop

Example 1

Rail CargoLiner will have the ability to work alongside passenger services, minimal platform dwell time is achieved by the rapid deployment of the loading platform. In ramp form, roll caged goods can be exchanged from platform to carriage in minimal time. This scenario could be further enhanced by secure platform infrastructure lockers designed for roll cages. Goods can then be locally distributed at a later stage or stored for collection.

Example 2

Rail CargoLiner will give the opportunity to utilise and/or repurpose sidings across the rail network. Time and cost-effective transformation of yards and sidings with track access products from STRAIL® for example, will make any location suitable for ground operations with the Rail CargoLiner. Without the concerns of platform dwell times, freight can now be transported alongside passenger services, even in peak times due to the revolutionary ground level operation that requires little to no supporting infrastructure.

speed capacity capability

Speed, Capacity and Capability

Example 1

The Rail CargoLiner will be a credible greener alternative to Air Freight when in operation on High-Speed networks.

Example 2

Rail CargoLiner will increase capacity within a single shipment. Roll caged, Containerised and Palletised goods can all be transported at high speed. Internal specification can include loading aids, such as rolling floors and temperature-controlled environments for the efficient movement of various types of products.

Example 3

The centralised payload door facilitates access for ‘half load’ shipments within the carriage, creating greater flexibility to logistics by rail.

Example 4

Rail CargoLiner enables frictionless international logistics for example, between the UK and Europe with the utilisation of the Channel Tunnel for the effective and efficient movement of goods.

Accessible Rail Freight

Example 1

Rail CargoLiner opens up accessibility to rail freight, for any sized shipment. Existing logistic models can easily integrate rail into their current and future operations, helping to achieve net-zero.

Example 2

With the ability of terminal free operations within developing nations, Rail CargoLiner would be a valuable asset for economic prosperity. Distribution of vital supplies and even aid, without the need of specialised handling equipment or skilled labour, across an existing rail network with little to no supporting infrastructure.

Example 3

Rail CargoLiner facilitates localised logistics. With the ‘trunk mileage’ completed by rail, area and regional operations can be completed by road. This enables range restricted greener road vehicles and smart technology to co-operate with the Rail CargoLiner, creating a net-zero logistic supply chain.

green logistics

Revolutionising Greener Supply Chains

Example 1

Centralised warehousing facilities become a possibility when Rail CargoLiner is utilised into a mobile distribution hub. With integrated smart technology for automation and real time tracking of goods across the rail network, Rail CargoLiner will drive a greener economy. The ability to Cross-Dock directly into HGVs and/or greener road vehicles, is facilitated by the breach mode function of the loading platform and provides a seamless transition of goods for onward distribution.

Example 2

Rail CargoLiner could be used as a mobile warehouse facility. Internal specification including shelving and/or racking creates an effective ‘on the move’ storage system for products and goods. Additionally, with the use of integrated smart technology for automation the Rail CargoLiner would be an effective solution for a greener supply chain. The ability to track goods in real time across the rail network enables accurate ETAs for end users.
